Georgia FFA recognized Billy Moss for 31 years of
distinguished service to agricultural education at the recent Georgia FFA
Convention. During his career, Mr. Moss has been an agricultural education
teacher, Young Farmer advisor and North Region livestock area teacher. Mr.
Moss has made many contributions to the success of Georgia’s junior
livestock program.
Some of his contributions include the restructuring and
resurrection of the State Steer Show, adding a percentage Simmental show,
the development of the First Year Steer Exhibitor Program, the creation of
the Georgia Club Calf Producers Association and the addition of the Georgia
Junior Beef Futurity, which has developed into one of the largest summer
livestock shows in the country. Mr. Moss has played a major role in the
success of each of these programs that have, in turn, improved both the
quality and the number of opportunities for students in Georgia to exhibit
livestock.
Mr. Moss has been active in the livestock industry
serving two terms as president of the Georgia Simmental Association and has
also served on the executive committee of the Georgia Cattleman’s
Association. Mr. Moss was also instrumental in starting the Bull Power
Group, an organization of purebred breeders interested in marketing cattle
as a group. In addition, in his career he has conducted over 600 adult
education courses in beef cattle production and enrolled over 15,000 adults
in North Georgia in these classes.
Mr. Moss is a graduate of Lincolnton High School,
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and the University of Georgia.
Mr. Moss will retire effective June 30, 2007.
Congratulations
To John and Marcia Callaway
on their being named the High Point Farm
for the Georgia Club Calf Producers Association (GCCPA)
at the recent GCCPA Awards Banquet held at the 2006 Junior Beef Futurity in
Perry in July 2006.
